Bag Lady Interview: Angela – Founder of Conrado | HOZEN

WHY HOZEN?

The quality and hand-feel is impeccable. The designs have this minimal aspect to it but not overly done. There’s a softness to Rae’s designs that draws me in and gets me the function that I need. Honestly, my favorite bag is the HOZEN’s Belt Bag – I love having my hands free. I use it for my on-the-go-days, which is practically daily!

DESCRIBE YOUR LOOK.

I try to achieve an effortless and easy look – just like how I want my designs for my clothing brand Conrado to emanate. I want to throw one versatile piece on to feel really good and mix that up with my wardrobe staples. Comfort is also key for me. The Regine Overall probably sums me up as a person.

WHAT’S A SELF-CARE PRACTICE YOU DO TO STAY HEALTHY?

Yoga and meditation. It changed my life. I teach yoga on the side.

WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR DOWN TIME?

I try to stay outdoors. I started a garden this year so that’s keeping me busy this spring. I also love experimenting in the kitchen. I like to work with my hands a lot so I’m usually up to something.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Traveling. It’s a big part of me and a big part Conrado. Conrado is inspired by the spirit of the clothes I wore growing up during trips we took. Wearing “city clothes” comfortable and versatile enough for adventures at the beach. Conrado’s tag line is “City to Beach.”

FAVORITE PLACE IN THE WORLD?

I have a special secret beach spot here on the island.

GUILTY PLEASURE?

Jollibee – a Filipino fast-food chain. Their fried chicken called Chicken Joy, is on my top 3 best fried chicken. Brings back so many good memories from growing up in the Philippines.

FUN FACT.

Born in San Francisco, grew up in the Philippines and now I live full time on Martha’s Vineyard – where my fiance is born and raised. I will officially be an oyster farmer’s wife one of these days when we finally get a date for our wedding. It is a dream of ours to live here and set a new lifestyle for us both. I design and work on Conrado in a small studio space above a gallery right by the water while Conrado is produced at our family-ran workshop in the Philippines that my mother started over 40 years ago.
